Term: Mid to Late May
Naomi’s Village is a Kenyan children’s home and school founded in 2011 outside of Maai Mahiu, Kenya, by Dr. Bob and Julie Mendonsa, both Baylor graduates. Julie is a School of Education graduate and educator, and Bob is a physician.
Naomi’s Village includes a residential children’s home, which serves around 100 children and two schools — LEAP pre-school and the K-12 Cornerstone Preparatory Academy. Cornerstone provides programs on par with the developed world, with ample technology, two libraries, science labs, and outdoor athletic facilities. Students receive meals and healthcare through the school. The schools serve children living at Naomi’s Village as well as students from the surrounding communities. The schools have put 550 children on solid pathways out of poverty.
A multi-disciplinary Baylor team will travel to Naomi’s Village in Maai Mahiu, and the education team will work with students and teachers, plus explore research opportunities. 2025 marks the launch of this collaboration.
Cost: For the 2025 trip, with BU Missions supplement, cost for participants is $2164.
