ACADEMIC: Undergraduate Semester Abroad

Faculty Directors: Dr. Terrill Saxon and Dr. Sandi Cooper
Term: fall or spring before start of Teaching Associate experience in SOE
Students can be truly immersed in another culture by spending a full semester at Liverpool Hope University through this tuition-exchange program. This experience is ideal for sophomore education majors, but first-year students may also be eligible. The School of Education’s academic advisors will guide students in selecting courses at Liverpool Hope, a Christian university, that are pre-approved for credit at Baylor and fit within their degree plan.
Liverpool is a maritime city in northwest England, where the River Mersey meets the Irish Sea. It is famously known as the hometown of The Beatles. A three-hour train ride to London and centrally located in the United Kingdom, Liverpool is a great spot for exploring more of the United Kingdom and Europe.

Faith Kim, who studied at Liverpool Hope in 2024 as a sophomore, took four courses, including three that counted for her general Baylor requirements and one that counted in the School of Education. She found the differences between university study in England and the United States to be intriguing. While there, she earned a community-service certificate by tutoring required hours in a non-profit literacy program, but she loved it so much, she spent much more time there than required. She also got to visit an elementary school to observe classroom differences. She also volunteered through the church she attended there, which she said was a highlight of her experience.
