FYE Programming & Community Building
The School of Education offers numerous events to help students build community with fellow future educators, find academic support, learn about opportunities at Baylor, and to just have fun. Students will learn about specific events through email invitation.
Going into the Field
Students taking TED 1312 (Introduction to Teaching) get to ask questions of upperclassmen in the School of Education about their first experience in the classroom. This panel discussion provides first-year students with key information and best practices for their fieldwork experiences.
Socials (Game Nights, Crafting Events, Pizza Nights, and more!)
The FYE program sponsors community-building events specifically for first-year students. Get to know other School of Education students and deepen relationships. Plus, there’s always free food, School of Ed merch, and more!
Peer Coach Conversations
The Peer Coach Conversation Series is a co-curricular opportunity for first-year students to gain supplemental knowledge in their educational journey. Coaches facilitate conversation centered around education, educational leadership, the classroom, and interacting with students.
Career Pathways in Education
An education degree is useful in a variety of careers, and Baylor is committed to helping you find the right one for you. SOE hosts The Education Career Pathways Panel to share information with students. The Panel is composed of professionals from different careers who all earned their degree in education. They share with current students about their professional journey and how they still use skills from their education degree in their current profession. This event is also helpful for any student considering graduate programs and needing advice on navigating that process.
Community Service Projects
The Special Events and Service Committee on the Student Advisory Council works to coordinate service projects around campus and with local non-profits and K-12 schools. There is a lot of need in the Waco community, and the Baylor School of Education prepares leaders to impact the world and shape the future of their community.
Study Abroad Fair
The Baylor School of Education offers several study abroad opportunities exclusively for education majors. These experiences take Baylor students into schools in other countries and cultures, providing a rich experience in comparative education studies — and lots of great ideas for your future classroom! The Study Abroad Fair showcases all of the trip options and provides key information about application deadlines, costs, etc.
