Associate Dean of Research
Grant B. Morgan, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Educational Psychology and Associate Dean for Research in the School of Education. In this role, Dr. Morgan provides leadership, oversight, and strategic planning in direct support of research activities and faculty research mentorship efforts within the SOE. Prior to joining the Dean’s Office, Dr. Morgan served as Chair of the Department of Educational Psychology, Graduate Programs Director, and Coordinator of the Quantitative Methods specialization for masters and doctoral programs.
Dr. Morgan maintains an active research agenda in the areas of latent variable modeling, psychometrics, and classification methods. Related to these, he has parallel lines of research that involve (1) methodological investigations of advanced models using Monte Carlo methods and (2) applications of advanced quantitative modeling in a variety of areas via interdisciplinary collaboration. Morgan has authored over 100 articles, manuscripts, book chapters, proceedings, and technical reports, and one book to date. His methodological works have been published in such journals as Structural Equation Modeling, Computational Statistics & Data Analysis, Methodology, Frontiers in Education, and Language Assessment Quarterly. He also teaches courses in measurement and advanced quantitative methods in the PhD program in Educational Psychology.
Dr. Morgan earned a B.S. in Psychology from Clemson University and a M.S. in HR/Organization Performance from Western Carolina University. He worked as a research analyst and evaluator at a minority-owned research firm in Charlotte, North Carolina before earning a Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina in Educational Research and Measurement.
