Joel Porter, Psy.D.
Assistant Dean & Director of Undergraduate Advising
Joel Porter, Psy.D., is assistant dean of the School of Education and director of undergraduate advising. He works with students of all levels and majors in the School of Education and helps coordinate student services and scholarships.
Dr. Porter grew up in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, the son of a Baptist minister. He graduated from Baylor with a BA in Sociology in 1987 and then pursued a master’s degree in educational psychology, finishing in 1990. While at Baylor, he played for the football team as a lineman.
After leaving Baylor, Dr. Porter worked in Longview, Texas, for two years as a master’s level counselor. He then moved to San Diego, California, to pursue a doctorate in psychology. After obtaining his doctorate, Dr. Porter moved back to Waco and joined Baylor's staff.
