Kathy Krey, Ph.D.
Senior Director of Research Administration
Dr. Kathy J. Krey is the Senior Director of Research Administration in the School of Education. In this role, Dr. Krey is focused on strategic research development and advancing the school’s capacity for grant-funded research. Prior to joining the SOE, Dr. Krey served as the Senior Director of Research and Administration at the Baylor Collaborative on Hunger and Poverty, where she led research, program, and policy initiatives aimed at providing scalable solutions to hunger and poverty. She provided leadership for daily administrative and operational functions and managed a diverse portfolio of research projects focused on food insecurity topics.
Dr. Krey has served as the principal investigator for over 30 grants awarded by federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as private foundations, and has managed more than $215 million in external grant and gift awards. Her research is dedicated to community analytics and evaluating programs and policies aimed at tackling hunger, especially the pivotal role of schools, churches, and communities in fostering systemic change. Dr. Krey has presented testimonies before esteemed bodies such as the Texas State Senate Education Committee, the Texas House of Representatives Agriculture Committee, and the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor. These testimonies highlighted the significance of public-private partnerships and federal nutrition programs in addressing domestic food insecurity. In acknowledgment of her leadership abilities, Dr. Krey was honored with the Baylor Distinguished Staff Leadership Award in 2021 for driving organizational success and fostering a culture of excellence among her team.
Additionally, Dr. Krey holds positions on governing boards of multiple nonprofit organizations and actively participates in local philanthropic endeavors. She has also served as a lecturer in the Hankamer School of Business, as affiliate faculty for the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work, and as graduate faculty for the Department of Sociology. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in marketing and sociology respectively and earned a Ph.D. in sociology from Baylor University.
